Particulate air pollution is separated into three classifications; coarse, fine and ultrafine particles. Coarse particles have a diameter of between 10µm and 2.5µm and settle relatively quickly whereas fine (0.1 to 2.5µm in diameter) and ultrafine (<0.1µm in diameter) particles remain in suspension for longer.

Our Fine Particulate Sampler AI-102 is precisely designed ambient air sampler for fine dust sampling. The AI-102 is a passive instrument for sampling fine particles (PM2.5 fraction) and is based on impactor designs standardized by USEPA for ambient air quality monitoring. Ambient air enters the series samplers system through an Omni-directional inlet designed to provide a clean aerodynamic cut-point for particles greater than 10 microns. Particles in the air stream finer than 10 microns proceed to a second impactor that has an aerodynamic cut-point at 2.5 microns. The air sample and fine particulates exiting from the PM 2.5 impactor are passed through a 46.2 mm diameter PTFE filter membrane that retains the fine particulate matter. The sampling rate of the system is held constant at 1 m3/hr (16.67 LPM) by a suitable critical orifice. For airflow measurement and flow totalisation of air passed through total sampling duration a dry gas meter is provided in the instrument that gives actual flow rate up to 0.0001 m3/min flow resolution.

In our High Volume Sampler AI-105, air-borne particulates are measured by passing air at a high flow rate of a cubic meter per minute through a high-efficiency filter which retains the particles. The instrument measures the volume of air sampled, while the amount of particulate collected is determined by measuring the change in weight of the filter paper as a consequence of the sampling. The passage of air reaching the filter is designed to prevent heavier settable dust particles from reaching the filter.

In order to measure PM10 and PM2.5 levels in ambient air, two different samplers need to be operated simultaneously. The combo sampler reduces this effort and combines both the sampling into a single instrument, making it cost efficient and at the same time provides easiness in operation and transportation. Our Combined Sampler AI-103 is an advanced state of the art technology based instrument for a combined sampling of PM10, PM 2.5 and four water-soluble gases SO2, NO2, NH3, and O3.

Single stage impactor has been fitted to remove dust greater than 10 microns from ambient air when sucked through it at a constant flow rate of 1m3/hr. It comes with 47 mm filter cassette for placing a filter paper of 47 mm diameter glass fiber filter for collecting PM 10 dust.

For a sampling of 2.5 microns dust, USEPA standard design based impactors have been incorporated in the AI-103. The impactor removes the dust size greater than 2.5 microns from ambient air in the dual stage, PM10 impactor for the dust of 10 microns and WINS impactor for the dust of 2.5microns. Airflow rate of 1m3/hr is maintained during the operation. A Filter cassette of 47 mm dia is placed under this impactor that holds a PTFE filter of 46.2 mm diameter to collect PM2.5 dust particles. AI-103 comes with gaseous sampling attachment either thermoelectrically cooled or ice cooled.

Our Respirable Dust Sampler AI-101 for PM10 sampling in ambient air uses the NEERI designed cyclone with a sharper cut-off at 10 microns to separate the bigger particulates from the air stream before filtering it on the glass microfibre filter. By using the AI-101, measurement of Respirable Particulate Matter can be done accurately and TSPM can also be measured by collection of dust collected in the dust cup at the bottom of the cyclone.     Air pollution comes from many different sources: stationary sources such as factories, power plants, and smelters and smaller sources such as dry cleaners and degreasing operations; mobile sources such as cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains; and naturally occurring sources such as windblown dust, and volcanic eruptions, all contribute to air pollution. These pollution sources can also emit a wide variety of pollutants which can be measured by many methods. Absorption of gaseous pollutants in a liquid medium is one of the most common methods for collecting air samples.

     

    Our Gaseous Sampling Attachment AI-111 comes in two models. Thermoelectrically cooled and Ice tray based gaseous sampler. The AI- 111 requires only a few LPM of air flow. The gaseous samplers are provided with a suction port and mounting hardware to facilitate interface of the instrument with other air samplers. A flow rate meter is attached with the AI-111 to set the air flow rate at the desired rate. Icebox with fiber body is given along with impinger case to provide cooling to impingers while sampling to avoid evaporation of gas in the dissolved sample.
